This image gallery contains photos from the central and southern parts of the island of Dominica: Morne Trois Piton, Trafalgar, Rosalie, Soufriere, and Scott’s Head.
Dominica is the greenest and most mountainous island in the Caribbean
The photo was taken from Scott’s head – the village of Soufriere can be seen in the distance. It is famous for its Bubble Beach – a hot spring in the sea, with bubbles coming out. Fish enjoy it as well, which makes the beach popular for snorkeling.
On the famous Boiling Lake trail. All the tourists I saw were accompanied by a local guide. One of the guides was angry with me because I was hiking the trail by myself. I understood his frustration. If a tourist gets hurt on the trail, that would affect his business. It is indeed a dangerous trail. Not only the lake is boiling, but the river along the way.
This is a small lake I passed by on the way to Boiling Lake. I don’t have a nice photo of it. Probably because it was too boiling. But I found some nice photos on this link.
Scott’s Head – the bay on the left has an incredibly deep coral wall full of fish. The spot is famous for freediving. When I took a dive here, five big barracudas were following me around the whole time. Once I gave up and decided to head back, my skin got burned by a medusa. I guess Dominica is wild, both above and under the ocean surface.
Morne Trois Piton has plenty of trails.
Houses in Trafalgar village – I took this photo on an incredibly steep farmland trail
A view from the terrace of my hostel in Soufriere
Category 5 hurricane Maria hit Dominica badly in 2017. When I visited in 2019, I was impressed by how well the country has recovered. Here’s a brief ABC News video about the trouble in paradise, from 2017.
